Whenever I drop the soap in my own shower, I cautiously turn around and slowly pick it up. I don't want to take any chances.

I'd consider it paranoid if you picked it up as fast as humanly possible, ya know...

No it is not, it is only being careful. Paranoid is looking always were the soap is and trying to put it in a specific position so it will not fall even if you are not taking shower.

It always pays to watch your back while in the shower. You never know who (or what) may have hidden out in there.
