I am a sophmore in high school. What should I be focusing and thinking about now?
I want to know what to do after high school, like what college to go to, etc, to become a veterinarian. I also want advice from any vets or anyone that can help me or give me information, tips, etc.

Also, what are some veterinary colleges in USA? All I know about is Cornell, which is extremely difficult to get into. It is however, my dream school. So any tips would be great about getting into here.

And how does this work, do you go to a 4 year college first, then veterinary school?
Does it matter what 4 year college you go to? Whats a good one that will increase my chances of getting into vet school?

What are my chances of getting into a veterinary college? To help you answer this one, look at the additional information.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I go to the best (academic) private/catholic school in my state, will that help me? Do colleges really look at high school grades? If so, what year counts the most? I heard that they are very concerned mostly with freshman year.

-In school, I am involved is Students Against Destructive Decisions, Youth Association, Photography Club, Enviornmental Club, Varsity Girls Ice Hockey

-My grades right now are as follows:

Religion- 95
English-81
Geometry-96
Spanish-80
Chemistry-92
visual studies-98
P.E- 98

Also, would it be helpful for me to visit Cornell (my dream school) now and have a discussion with an official? Would it be helpful since I am just a sophmore in High School?

The answer to which Vet school is easiest to get into depends completely on where you live. That is because almost all vet schools (if not all) have residency requirements.

So -- if you live in NY, Cornell is the easiest to get into -- because most of the others are impossible to get into. If you live in Minnesota, then the University of Minnesota is the easiest to get into -- because most of the others are impossible to get into.

Vet School is the single hardest program to get into. I know people who went to medical school because they couldn't get into a Vet school.

You need every advantage that you can get. You should be doing volunteer work for a Vet now. You need the best grades you can get. You need to go to the best undergraduate school that you can get into. And you need high standardized test scores.

Even then -- you probably won't get in.

I know that is hard to hear -- but it is the reality.
