I live in the U.S. I want outdoor hangings, corporal punishment brought back to deter murders, the reason it's not a deterrent anymore is the fact that the everyday normal person does not see the ghastliness of it.(which they should)secondly if you cannot prove 100%that the person convicted actually commited the crime then they should be given life untill it can be proven one way or the other, if guilty imeadiately(within a month) taken out and executed,if innocent they should be well compensated for the mistake made by the courts.case in point is the Scott Peterson case in U.S.found guilty, but on circumstantial evidence(should be given appeals)Now we will deal with what I mean by 100%guilty case in point jeffery dahmer no circumstantial evidence in this case should have been executed in a months time in public this is where the deterrent is to stop or greatly reduce murders from happening comes into play, keep in mind you will never be able to stop all murders i.e. crimes of passion,or people with no moral fibre or conscience for example but i think it would greatly reduce them. And to those who say only God has the right to take a life, wrong read the bible, it states that if you find a person guilty of murder execute him in public and send him directly to me unfortunately I cannot quote chapter and verse but have read it in there!

It depends on the murder, and yes hanging. Not in public. Quick and humane but yes, traumatic. Guilt would need to be near obvious. For example, Jodi Arias, hanging...Scott Peterson, probably not but a fair chance of yes...Manson murderers, hanging...Manson, no...Susan smith, hanging...It would be tough to determine, orchestrating a hideous murder is something hard to feel 100% about. I wouldn't think it should be done a lot, many now on death row wouldn't qualify. next worse sentence, 25 to life, no parole until 25 years. some may not ever get parole. on average, over 30 years. Hanging is better than this lethal injection debacle.

this debate keeps coming up again and again because we have a gutless corrupt and hopelessly impotent society that cant even manage to command its own legal system with a modicum of courage or consistency...... the cry wot if))) ,must have been responsible for more deaths in the last 10 years than the Falklands war. if the public cant find the balls to stand firmly by a law that will make criminals take the charge of murder seriously, and FACE!! the fact that mistakes do! happen, then at least make the demand that life means life for murder. and 25 years means 25 years for manslaughter. no appeals no early release. no criminal can respect weakness. and i cant say that it sits well in my stomach either. there are too many inoccents in early graves to justify it. there are armys of fools that argue againced the punnishment of criminals. but dont have an alternative that will protect the public. there for their whimperings have less value than the criminals them selves. and for the idiot that whines about the one in a thousand mistakes, and say's that the names of those who vote for hanging should have their names put in a hat! and every time an inocent man die's theirs a lottery held with the names ETC ETC.....yea!! ok. and for every one that votes againced the same. for every life lost to a released murderer. you lot will die long before we do. your weakness is why so many people are dead in the first place. so dont try to make us! feel guilty. go hang your sorry worthless heads in shame.

Actually if you look at your facts properly, murder is not on the increase. It is just being reported better in the media. Lookk at the U.S, would you really want your country to be like that? How many people have been killed in the wrong...hundreds apparently.
Those that inflict pain on children or/and commit sexual crimes ought to be locked up for life...but bringing back hanging is not the answer.

I do not subscribe to the return of capital punishment. I agree with an 'eye for an eye' in normal circumstances but, unfortunately, I have little faith in our judicial system. America maintains capital punishment in a number of states and I suspect there have been numerous instances of people wrongly put to death. Even if the nation agreed that capital punishment should be reintroduced in the UK I do believe that hanging is a grotesque way of punishing amyone for the crime of murder. However, I do believe punishment should suit the crime and murderers should lose all rights to human dignity , if they are found guilty. Prison life should be devoid of the luxuries afforded to decent people and those found guilty should feel it is hell on earth. At least, if a murderer is later found to be not guilty of the offence. he will be alive to return to society.

This is a really hard question to answer as I don't think it's clear-cut.
I don't believe in capital punishment and am very concerned about miscarriages of justice. On the other hand if someone I loved was murdered I may feel quite differently.
I think, if I was asked to vote on it, I'd say no to capital punishment

Here's an idea -
Let's have a referendum on hanging, on condition that you have to give your name if you vote "for".
Then, if there's a miscarriage of justice, and an innocent person is executed, all the names could go into one of the machines they use for the lottery. We could have a big show on TV on Saturday night (maybe with Ant & Dec), when the "winner" would be chosen to be hanged, as retribution for the relatives of the wrongly hanged person.
They couldn't POSSIBLY complain, as one of the things they always say is, "better one innocent person hangs than all these rapists and murderers roaming the streets......"

Some States in the USA have capital punishment. Murder rates in some of those States is amongst the highest in the USA.
Murder rates are higher now in the UK because society has changed so much. I think murderers should be hung, however the threat of it will not change to murder rate.

Hanging is still an option as far as the death penalty for inmates in some states. Hanging in my opinion is to produce fear in those who SEE it. If I read about an inmate being hung, it would not produce the fear it would if lets say I went and saw it.

No because there's always the chance of an innocent person being convicted. It's better to give a prison sentence, so that they can be released if found later to be innocent. You can't bring back a dead person.
