I have to go with Roger Clemens and Dice-K. Due to the hype, I had both on my fantasy team so I know firsthand what a disappointment they were. At least with Dice-K you could say he had a language barrier and other issues in his first year. The same could not be said with Clemens who just fed into the drama. Then he came out and basically sucked - for that kind of money he should have been the savior of the NYY season. The Yankees should have paid him with fools gold. I will add that as an Indians fan, I hate to say it but I would put Travis Hafner on that list. From stud to dud in 2007.

Out those guys I would have to say Dice-K. They paid over 50 million to just talk with him and he was a huge bust in the second half of the year. On the other hand he is a rookie and is from Japan so his probably not used to all the innings of work, the stress, etc. A close second is Clemens considering he was so-so the entire time he was pitching and was given tons of money for no reason.

Probably Barry Zito, or Daisuke.
Zito: 126 million over 6 years. Thats insane money for someone who didn't even win 10 games. He had an ERA over 5, and gave up over 20 homeruns. He is probably the most overrated player in baseball.
Daisuke:50 Million dollars just to negotiate with him! Thats absolutely ridiculous! Than an other 100 million over 5 years.

Barry Zito has to be #1 by a long shot. $126,000,000 for a washed up pitcher who had ONE great cy young season 6 years ago.
Dice K hasn't lived up to his salary but has still been much better than Zito.
Clemens was overpaid and overrated but his deal was only for a few months which makes it less of a mistake than Zito's.
The other 3 have been solid, especially Ichiro who would have SHATTERED Pete Roses' tainted hits record if he'd played his whole career in the MLB. He also happens to be one of the best OFs this side of Torii Hunter.

Well, the Clemens hype faded along with his performance. Zito's hype also pretty early, once he stopped pitching. Ichiro had a great year. Hardy had a better than expected year, even if he did fade at the end. Dice-K had a decent year, also fading towards the end. Wells had a lousy year, but since he plays in Toronto, there wasn't that much hype with him. I'd say Fielder, who, let's face it, did nothing but hit home runs. He was Dave Kingman, but he got treated like he was a great player.

That is a tough one between Clemens and Dice-K...even though I am a Red Sox fan I would have to say Dice-K narrowly beats him for that title...hopefully in the next couple of years he will live up to the great expectations people have for him but for 2007 he was very highly touted and just didn't live up to it...Clemens is a very close second though in my opinion because the media hyped him up to be the savior of the 2007 season and he was the one piece that would help get them to the World Series...it could really go either way.

Roger Clemens - between Suzyn Waldman going gaga over him and him acting like a premadonna at the beginning of the season trying to decide whether or not to pitch this year or not, it just seemed like there was alot of fuss for not much action. I mean, choosing not to pitch for like a month while every other PROFESSIONAL player is busting their butts in spring training and the beginning of the regular season is just the most selfish thing that I have ever seen.
And then once he did make a decision to pitch again he had all these stipulations - its like come on, retire already. It's just too much.

None of the above -
It was Jose Reyes. They talked about him like he was hitting everything in site, and was stealing 100 bases. Well, he fell 22 short of that mark, and 20 points short of even hitting .300! Hanley Ramirez had only 51 stolen bases (like 51 is bad!), but blew Reyes out of the water in every other offensive catagory, including hitting .332 vs. Reyes .280.

For shear money that went along with the hype (and little outcome) it has to be Roger Clemens.
Daisuke had a so-so year but still has time to prove himself.
