It's highly probable, because he graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, FL. But what does his faith have to do with baseball? (or for any player, for that matter)

No, actually he is german. The name used to be Papelbaum, untill his ancestors moved to the US, and changed it to Papelbon.
