Civil seems to have a wider group of clients and better job stability. I am a chemical engineer and both of those issues means more money and freedom in the long run.

If you aren't fond of hand drawing and aren't willing to develop the skill such that it becomes natural to you, then architecture is not for you. You need to be able to rapidly and effectively sketch a design idea on paper.

If you are serious about liking design, then you need to work on this skill. Like other skills, it can be developed if you invest the time and training.

If you don't want to work on your drawing skills then choose the civil route. I'm an architectural engineering major (only slightly removed from civil), but be aware that as a freshmen there are a bunch of tough courses coming in your next two years. Statics is a cake walk. Dynamics is not. I'm not sure what courses are required for civil but thermo, mechanics of elastic bodies, and electrical engineering aren't easy either.

You should figure out what inspires you and work towards that. If you attempt to choose by avoiding what is uncomfortable then you may not be happy where you end up.

sign up for a few classes in both majors. see which ones you like better. you don't have to decide right away.. you could make one your major and one your minor.
