First a question - do you have any acting talent? If not - forget it as the acting profession's very overcrowded.
If you're convinced you can make it - go for it. It's one of the best (and the worst) jobs in the world.
As for agents - if you're any good they'll find you although you could ring around a couple to see if they'll interview you or maybe come to see you in something.
One word of advice - never, never, pay any money out to an agent who promises to get you work. You should pay commission at an agreed and contracted rate only when the agent's found you a job with a professional contract.

its usually very hard to get work without an agent, because of certain negotiations that need to be made. if you really dont want an agent you could try to see if one of your parents could act as a manager for a while, but that could pose alot of problems for you since hollywood isnt so nice to momagers (moms that act as managers). get some headshots and take acting classes. audition for as many plays as possible so you can build your resume. because you are so young agencies will be more willing to book you with such a brief resume but some experience wouldnt hurt. when you get your headshots do some research of the photographers first to make sure you and your parents like their work, and remember that the pictures should look like you in an every day situation. when you think that you are ready for an agent, submit your headshot and resume to them

Sorry, you cannot be someone other than who you are. By the time you are ready to act, if you ever are, you will be too old for the Disney channel. Forget it.

You need an agent, and tons of talent. Work on your acting, and your agent will be constantly signing you up for auditions.
It takes tons of responsability, and you'll want to keep those grades up if you're really serious.

People act everyday. Look up the telephone book and find an agency that could interview you and check out what talent you might have.
