Who is it helping, to turn against your fellow countrymen? Is it easier to hate people who don't agree with you than it is to actually address the issues you don't agree on?

I'm a liberal. I don't hate conservatives. My best friend is a Republican in the Air Force for goodness sakes! And, he'll agree with me that the anger people feel towards their own countrymen for their opinions is doing nothing but causing unnecessary strife.

Why do it?

I'm not suggesting there is always a middle ground; I am asking why we must hate those who disagree with our point of view. I don't see why we can't respectfully debate without resorting to slander, name-calling, and aggressiveness.

People do it because they know they're anonymous on this site (more or less), and they can get away with things that in the real world would get them beaten to a pulp. Both sides do it. Why do you think bartenders tend to steer conversations away from politics? Because eventually somebody gets a beer bottle broken over their head. Here in Yahoo there are no consequences to your actions, so people think they have no reason to behave like civil adults. Why disagree with somebody when you can disagree with somebody AND belittle him and everything he believes in? All the hate comes down to the fact that a lot of people here don't have the guts to speak up in the real world, but want to think they're still hard core about whatever they believe. They're cowards and wannabes. And they pollute the site for the rest of us.

Two completely different ideologies, value systems, and ways of looking at the world. It is difficult to coexist when your views are so completely different.

I don't "hate" liberals, but I am completely opposed to many of their views and their way of thinking.

I hate the Democratic party, but, some of my best friends are Democrats. I think Atheism is illogical tripe, but, I have friends who are atheists. I hate uneducated stupidity, but, I have family and friends who are liberals.

It isn't the individuals that I hate.

They hate the very labelling of the word itself...this has limited people's freedom of expression by putting them in categories.

I keep hearing questions like this where people express the idea that we need to find a middleground or something...the problem is the middleground doesn't exist--abortion is either murder or it isn't, we are either going to be at war or we aren't, we are either going to pay for everybody's healthcare at the expense of the working class or we aren't...we are either going to continue willy-nilly down a path to socialism or we aren't.

No middle-ground that I am seeing. I hate liberalism, although I try to tolerate liberals--but to me they seem like there is something wrong with their wiring, seriously.

It's easier to close the mind rather than open it.

If I didn't have conservative friends, I would be very lonely. Most don't know my political stances.

It started with Limbaugh in the 90's and has escalated dramatically since with dozens of Limbaugh clones that preach hate toward Liberals every single day. Naturally, people are going to get sick of it and start to fire back.

I don't hate liberals simply because they are liberals... I just return the favor to those that start the hating.

Whatever.

You're no true liberal if you can't recognize that the right is attempting to subvert the Constitution of The United States in order to establish a Christian-Fascist dictatorship.

the hate of liberals is simple. unilateral surrender is cowardice in the face of a deadly enemy ive seen and lived with wtc in nyc. and confiscatory taxation frustrates me as i cannot keep enough of what i earn due to paying for yet another welfare scheme. these things shame me as an american and are caused by liberals.
