I not know much, but, I have used it. I spread it in and smooth out with a plastic spreader. I wait until it almost hard and use this metal rasp thing to smooth down. The rasp not work if it hard. This about all I know.

If the link work, you see the rasp I use. This say "Wood Rasp", but, this what I use, I guess. Like I say, I not know much. LOL!

I use bondo to fill small gaps in my fiberglass work.Can be used for other stuff.The stuff is tricky to get out once it sets.The only thing that takes it out is sanding/grinding.
