Born in Oklahoma, a little kid in England, grade school in Jesse James' hometown (Liberty Missouri) then Jr High and High School on "Isla de Ladrones" (Guam). I traveled to Hong Kong and Taipei as a teenager, went all the way around the world in the US Navy...finally to end up in Kansas City...where am I from?

I usually say "Earth...greetings!"

It depends on who asks the question. For anybody not French, I just say: "from France". Otherwise, born in Paris, brought up in the south of France. Both my parents have foreign origins (Greek, Slovene). I don't have an accent (not in French, anyway...).
It took some time to realize and accept I was French, but after 4 years in England, I knew what it meant to be "foreign". It's one of those places in the world where most people make you feel "foreign". And one of the things I like in the US is that (where I have been to anyway) people don't care if you have an accent and if you were not born "here".
edit: I am having second thoughts. People don't care if you have an accent, but not always. It's okay for me because I am French, but I know it is not as easy for everyone.

Depends upon the context of the question, but not usually.

If it was general chitchat at a party then i say where i currently live.

If it was more like where were you born then i respond appropriately.

Life doesn't have to be complicated. I grew up moving every twelve months or less sometimes. These places i called my home for the time being, but the true answer is where you were born. Giving up your whole life story at one simple question to an unsuspecting party goer can be annoying. There is no further questions to ask and leaves no mystery.

Rather then list the 50 states I've lived in at one time or another and explain that NO I am not a military baby and NO my family was never running from the FBI or the CIA, I simply gape at the asker with an open mouth and a blank expression until such time as they look away from the sheer discomfort of it all.

Sometimes...I've lived in 5 states, and have stayed for extended periods of time in 6 others. Then I went back to my original state for 4 years, and so on....

Yes, apparently we have the same problem. I grew up all over the world, too. I generally just try to change the subject.

Dude, I seriously have that same problem. My parents are divorced and have moved tons of times (although always within the same state).

I supposed I have it a little easier that you do!

I too have moved around. So I just say, "I live in Clarksville, AR now". At some point it will come out that you moved around. People don't really care they are just curious.
