talk to their wives? A young couple I know were driving down a country road, after they had a terrible fight. As they passed a farm with cows, mules, pigs and goats, the husband says sarcastically; Relatives of yours? Yep the wife replies wryly. There're my in laws.

It takes on average 6-10 attempts for a woman to leave an abusive relationship. Fear of being alone, fear of a violent man, fear of not having a place connected 'normally' to society are all issues. You'll be working through the concept of you you are as a human in society from scratch almost, and it's not easy. If there has been violence then you should consider leaving to protect your kids. You might be able to report violence to police or take out a restraining order. A restraining order might force him to leave. Whatever choices you make, to stay or to go, they are your choices and part of who you are. Every woman's decision is going to be different. If you live in Australia there are networks of DV services and legal centres that can help you figure out what options you have got. There might be a similar network of services in your country. Contact them and see what legal options you have got.

I saw from the answers that basically YAers thought this was funny and good that the wife gave him a taste of his own medicine.

I don't know, but I think, it's sad in a way because it's the kind of joke that is not pure fun or funny, but is really a sarcastic, nasty, hurtful dig. So, yes, it is too bad about the way this married couple (whether real or just in jokeland) relate to each other.

I think it can cut both ways. In some senses women can be even more cutting as (generally) they have a habit of not mincing their words and really going for the proverbal jugular. Where a man might be a little obvious (a little like your example) and easy to put down. A woman might well make a comment, quietly, but so devastating that no response can sidestep it!

Not to mention the way some men treat animals - a farmer near to where I live has just been convicted of having sex with all the animals in his farmyard. They didn't say how he got found out - personally, I think it must have been the pig that 'squealed'.

That was soooo funny. Love to pass that one on about a hundred times. I love my mother in law though. She is very nice to me.

LoL that is so funny! Thanks, I needed a good laugh today. I get up each day and search for a "ray of sunshine". Since I've actually been in bed sick most of this day, I had not found the "ray". You sent it! Thanks again!
