Above are several motorhome rental companies. I have dealt with the top two, El Monte and Cruise America only. There are so many it's hard to tell who's the best. If you were to type "Motorhome Rentals" in your search engine you would get hundreds of hits.
Plan on spending at least $100+ per day to rent a motorhome. Don't rent something you don't feel safe driving. I never drove anything larger than a 3/4 ton pick-up prior to purchasing a 36' diesel motorhome. I am still careful when my wife and I hit the road. Our last trip was 15,000+ miles from Florida to Alaska and back.
Watch the contract you sign, you could be caught with fees you don't expect. If you are traveling across the US, you will want unlimited mileage. Many contracts will allow for only 100 miles per day. You will want free road service and tire repair. It is terrible to be stuck on a vacation waiting on a tow truck.
While I was sitting in Anchorage, Alaska, waiting for a new engine for my motorhome, I saw a family towed in with a disabled rental motorhome. They rented from a private owner and waited for four days for parts to be delivered. This required the renter to be late for work, in Ohio, by a week.
Be careful and enjoy, a RV is the only way to travel.
Additional details: The below site shows that a 25' motorhome, rather small, rented in Bakersfield, CA will cost you $2,970 for 30 days with a $960 mileage charge for 3,000 miles. There was nothing on their site about picking up on the West coast and dropping off on the East coast. I'm sure it's possible.
If the above poster can find you a $16 per day RV, I would go for it. I'm sorry that I can't find one, from a reputable dealer for under $100 per day. It seems like that has been the price for several years. I'm sure that they have found a way to make up for inflation some other way, such as the $960 for 3,000 miles. That's what you used to get for free.
Shop around, you may find a better deal. Just be careful at what you take.
