i'm sorry to say that the dead twin would be left in the womb until it was time for the living twin to be born. there would be too much risk involved to remove the dead baby. it could trigger the premature birth of the living baby.

i can't even imagine how hard that must be to go through. but all u could do would be to comfort yourself with the knowledge that by doing this, u are giving the remaining twin the best possible chance of being born healthy, and hopefully as close to full term as is possible.

I can only tell you what happened to me, the second twin stopped growing early on and the doctor told me that I would probably pass it as it was quite early on. At around 16 weeks I passed a large clot and we presume that was the other twin. My daughter was fine. I dont know what would happen at 19 weeks but I would think that you would have to carry on with the pregnancy until the second twin is ready to be born. I wish you good luck :)

If the dead twin is in its own sac, and the 2nd twin shows no sign of distress, doctors are most likely to let the pregnancy continue under close monitoring. As long as no signs of infestion or preterm labor appear, the senond baby has a chance to make it if carried to 28 weeks.

usually you will continue on an normal with the pregnancy. its likely that you will deliver early, but its generally not harmful to carry the dead fetus.

mentally, however, its a different story. I had a baby die at 19 weeks, i cant imagine carrying a dead baby around for months.
