There is no proof that Lincoln owned slaves. Here is info from the Lincoln Museum. Abe himself wrote he did not own slaves and he hated slavery.

Lincoln s wife sure did and even though he lived in the North there were certainly Slave owners in the North too, granted not as many but there were some But Lincoln had this to say about the black race: "the African-American population should leave the United States and settle in Africa or Central America" He wanted to ship Every black person out of America and said that they were selfish to think that they could stay in the United States permanently. The Confederate War was ALL About the North wanting Taxes from the Southern States because the Southern States were making more money off the cotton that they were shipping to the Northern factories, and to take the Southern States. It Really had Nothing to do with Slavery at first. Slavery was only brought up as a last resort to gain more votes from the Northerners and knew that IF he could collapse the Southerners cotton industry then he could break them down to where they needed the North. All you can say is Abe Lincoln didn t like black people and used them just to make more money, he was really no different than the Slave owners himself because he used them for his own benefit and profit... part of this came from History.com (5 things you should know about Lincoln) but you can find it all, all over other offical History websites

There is nothing to suggest that he owned slaves but the issue may be confused by the fact that fellow "progressives" such as Thomas Jefferson DID own slaves and were ambivalent on the issue.

Lincoln never owned slaves. Some of the founding fathers did, not Lincoln.

His wife's family did. He didn't like slavery but he also felt strongly that blacks should not have the same rights as whites. He even wanted to send them all back to Africa. True story.

In 1837, he made his first protest against slavery in the Illinois House, stating that the institution was "founded on both injustice and bad policy."

That's from Wikipedia. Before you get your panties in a twist, you will notice that there is a footnote which means that the information is from a reliable source. And if you bother to follow down to the end of the article and click on the link associated with the appropriate number, you are led here: http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=lincoln;cc=lincoln;type=simple;rgn=div1;q1=founded%20on%20both%20injustice%20and%20bad%20policy;view=text;subview=detail;sort=occur;idno=lincoln1;node=lincoln1%3A101

His wife's family were slave owners.

Nowhere will you ever find that Lincoln owned slaves. The proof is in all the history ever written.
