It stinks that so many text books make dry, unreadable dust out of the juicy, flesh-and-blood lives of people who made a difference (for the worse or better) in the world.
If you can imagine the real conditions of the "characters" and get involved in their story, it might help it to be less painful?

Why, I like history. But I gotta write this stupid persuasive speech, and I would do ten other people's homework, as long as I could get an A in my Time to Speak class despite never having written the persuasive speech.
