The only thing both lights have in common, is the ground for the bulb.
Check that the ground isn't unplugged.
Check the ground, of the bulb's socket.
The ground wire could have broke off, or the bulb isn't making a good connection to the socket (rust/corrosion).
Or simply both filaments burned out at the same time (due to vibration, they can break when the bulb gets old).

It's a fuse. The dashboard lights and the taillights are on the same circuit intentionally. The reason for this is to give the driver an indicator that the taillights do not work. 10 out of 10 times if your dashboard lights go out on a Chevrolet neither do your taillights work. It's a fuse the fuse i am certain it's the fuse. Make sure that you have placed the right type of bulb in the socket. The reason I mentioned this is because if you use a single filament bulb in a dual filament socket, the moment you hit the brake lights you will blow the fuse for the taillight circuit.

If the bulb is good, I'd suspect a bad ground or a dual lead connector somewhere between the light and brake pedal-lever.

Oh, ignore what some people say about getting rid of the bike. Young and foolish people say things like that.

Could be a short?

Blown bulbs?

Brake light lens is cracked or small unseeable crack allowing moisture in. Check for rust where the bulb goes in.
