I breast feed my baby until she was 2 years old. In that her whole life (She'll be 3 next week) She's only had 4 colds her whole life. Yes I believe breast feeding helps keep children healthier. I'm sure if I didn't work in a hospital where I was exposed to so much myself I wouldn't of gotten her sick. (I myself was sick those same 4 times she was, and I was always the one that started off with the cold before she did) Be happy for yourself and your baby, you did a great job.

Not really, she caught pink eye when I had it. No colds, no flu, not even an ear infection!
Our son was breastfed too- and when we have a cold for close to 2 weeks, he is sick for 1 day- that's it. Or he misses it altogether. He is 11 now. So, he is still reaping the benefits of having nursed.
She is 14 months and I am so happy to read of another mom nursing this long!

My 15 month old, who was formula fed from 1 month on (thanks to a horribly awful bout with mastitis, stay in the ER, etc) has only just gotten his first cold now - from me.
My first, who was breastfed much longer, is much more prone to getting a stuffy nose, etc, and was while he was being nursed as well.
While breastfeeding does generally lend to a headstart that way, it by no means guarantees it.
A friend of mine has two boys also - she breastfed until a year with each - one is prone to colds, etc...the other one almost never gets sick, except when a really bad virus is making the rounds.
Another friend with two boys - breastfed until about a year also...one gets ear infections and pinkeye at the drop of a hat...other one tends to get fevers.
Kids are all different in how their bodies handle things...you've got an extra healthy one there! :)

Nursing is the best for any baby but I nursed my daughter and she was hospitalized 6 times before she was 18 months old.
You should feel blessed; there is nothing worse then having a sick child.
Does your child attend daycare or play with other children at all?

My son is almost a year old and has never been sick. He was breastfed until he was 6 months old. I think it is probably more related to whether he stays home or is in daycare. Children in daycare tend to get sick more frequently due to exposure.

My son got Roseola, but theres no antibodies in breastmilk for that sort of thing. It only lasted 4-5 days though, not the general 10. Beyond a little runny nose, thats it.
Theres a reason why breast is best. :)
