I should add that it will spoil if I save it for later

Alright, to make things a bit more clear, this is in reference to the starving kids who haven't got anything to eat.

sigh.. I asked this in Philosophy for a reason, I was hoping for some thought out answers.
I don't need advice, if I did, I would have asked this under the Health section.

Why limit yourself to only two options?
There are plenty of other options.
First of all, learn from your mistake. Only make enough for yourself to eat if you prefer to dine alone. Or, next time, invite someone over to share your meal with.
It is a waste if you do either of the two things that you suggested.
Think outside of yourself, think about all the people in the world who are not even fortunate enough to have enough food to feed their families.
Overindulgence in basic human needs is the same as gluttony, in my book.
And stop asking this question every day, please.

Well I don't think starving kids are really relevant; what are you going to do, overnight your leftovers to them? (Even that would be futile, as your food apparently won't keep even overnight.) Some food wastage can't be helped. No need to feel guilty about it, just try to fix less food next time, or fix food that will actually keep until your next meal. If you're feeling guilty about starving kids anyway, then donate to a cause that will help them. (Or visit the site below each day; I do!)
While I personally consider it a minor sin to throw out food, sometimes there's no choice. A couple facts about food, first, we actually produce more food than we need because we need to account for food losses (spoilage, rodents/insects, unripe/overripe, squashed, etc.). Second, the world produces enough food to feed everyone. Most famines are not the result of insufficient food, but in the inability to get food to those in need, often for political reasons.

Is your question perhaps a false dichotomy? Are those two the only options available?
If your choices are absolutely restricted to only between eating it or throwing it out, then that is purely a subjective choice. There is no 'right' answer.
If there are other available choices -- like if there is a hungry person not too far away who would eat it, then that would be a preferred choice.
I signed up for a mail-order diet plan, and I hated the food they shipped to me. So I gave it all away to a homeless shelter, in order to help all of the homeless people who are trying to lose weight.

I think if it can't be saved, ask this question: will it replace a meal later if I eat it now? If it helps save food later, that's as good as saving it now.
If you answer to that is no, then ask yourself how much waste it will produce (as in, garbage taking up space),. and that might be a reason to eat it. But factor in your own health too - overeating isn't doing yourself any favors (and I'm talking about health, not looks). So, just consider different aspects and balance them out.

The entire problem stems from taking more than you need to survive. Now you are in a dilemma exactly like the one existing in the world. One country has too much while another starves. Feed the rest of it to the animals if you are done.

If you can't save it for later then the only option is to throw it away thought it such a waste with so many people not having a thing to east. I would recommend you to cook meals that you can put in your refrigerator to keep in case you can't finish them

If your Question is Economics: Put it away for tomorrow.
If your Question is of Health: Stop eating immediately.
If your Question is of charity: Take a clean plate and rearrange your meal in it and cover it with cellophane and go out and pass it on to a homeless person. If there is none than put it in the fridge for tomorrow.
If all this is not normal: Please go see a doctor and get yourself checked out!

Put in the fridge for later. Put it in the freezer for much later.
Invite some friends in, and have a party. Ask if your neighbor's pets could have it.
Of course, all depend on just what you have left over. If it is bony fish, don't feed the neighbor's cat.

how can you be full when you eat half of your meal, assuming you prepared the meal to fit your stomach size?
Continue eating. NEVER waste food.
ah, so u want a philosophical answer.
You should eat half of whats left, and throw the rest. Now you get the best of both world and reduce your guilt to half.
