Yes, I've heard this is a popular year for the end of the world. (It comes form "Mayan calenders" and "Egyptian Pyramid prophecies.".. uncertain things like that.) But the year 2000 was a lot more popular, aswell as the year 1000 and dozens of other years. People have always thought the world is about to end. I read once that a clay tablet from ancient Mesopotamia from around 4000 BC was found that said that society had become corrupt and everything was falling apart and the world was about to end.

In the end there is no reason to think the world is about to end, from a scientific or religious point of view. An environmental catastrophes well always be gradual from our point of view, remember the earth has been around for 5 billion years, while human society has only been around for a few thousand. It's old news. That's the year the Mayan Calendar ends. It's bogus. There is a doomsday prophecy every few years. Last time it was the Y2K thing. Before that it was an asteroid that was due to hit earth on April 13, 1998 or something like that. I never believe any doomsday prophecy.
