I want to carve it and put it on my entertainment center with a candle inside, but I don't want it to attract bugs or the dreaded gnat! Is there something I can spray on it or anything that will allow me to keep it inside? Thanks!

hairspray.... we made gingerbread houses for a school project last year, and the teacher sprayed all the gingerbread houses (which were coated in frosting, gumdrops, mint candies, lollipops, etc), in hairspray! also kept naughty children from picking off the gumdrops and eating them. but it works for bugs! something about the chemicals in hairspray is a turn-off for bugs.

Spray any kind of bug spray you can find on it. Make sure no one eats it after this. Light it then you will be able to put it inside. :D

You can use polyurethane in it but I wouldnt recommend it. Why not just get a fake ceramic one and put a candle in it. They dont rot or smell or catch on fire.
