If your wife goes into labor, no hospital can refuse her care based on your ability or inability to pay. Any person presenting to an emergency medical facility cannot be turned away if they are in need - and labor is considered an emergency medical condition under these guidelines.

They will have you talk to a hospital representative after she delivers and you can make payment arrangements. It's great that you at least have $2500 and can at least pay for part. Many non-profit hospitals will work with people of low income and either help them find resources for financial assistance, or will negotiate for a reduced bill and make payment plans.

Don't worry! Your wife won't have to deliver at home or on the street.

I am curious as to why your wife planned her visit to the United States when she would be close to the time of delivery if you knew she had no health care and is not a U.S. citizen?

A hospital will not refuse to care for her and the baby if she shows up at the door in labor. Arrangements to pay can be made after the birth, and it's good that you have some money saved to contribute.

All the best to you

If it is a normal delivery it is extremely costly a lot more than 2500 dollars. Have her call a local hospital and ask about medical paying assistance or what is available. They will probably put her on social services and you won't have to pay for anything. They cannot refuse to treat her because she isn't a citizen.
