No, Uggs are a fashion statement.
If you are looking for really warm waterproof winter boots, look at North Face, Columbia, Solomon, Spyder, etc.
They make REALLY warm boots that are good to zero degrees and below and some are have enough traction to do winter hiking, snowshoeing, etc.
