i tried to send my friend a fax using her home phone number, but it just called her on the telephone. i could hear her talking through the fax machine! do i have to add a certain number to it or something?

In an analog telephone line - the lines are the same (they're interchangable) - the only difference would be the device hooked up on the other end.

it is possible to use one number. Typically the fax can be set to pick up the line on a certain number of rings. Outside of that the line can be used as regular. Occassionally there might be a code that needs to be entered on the phone to access the fax...but that is rare.

Hi. Shared line. If someone picks up when you are sending a FAX the she hears what answer 2 said.

The fax machine will answer the phone, and she should not. If she does, it could cause reception problems.

She has to have a specific phone line and number for her fax machine. You know you got her fax if you hear and annoying eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee........squeal.
