I think as time goes on, people will assume less and less. Either way, i agree... It does not matter what people think. What really matters is what you think, and how you feel. If you are comfortable with cross-dressing, then all is good.

I think all cross-dressers would love to work in the feminine industry if they had a chance, I'd love to work in the women's department of any store. I don't think it really matters what people think & why worry about them if they assume the wrong things, if it's a guy, they probably just wish they had your job or just want to dress-up like a girl. jk

Unfortunately, they probably do assume.
People make all sorts of assumptions. Look at the "hairdresser" stereotype. A buddy of mine who is straight works in a salon. The assumption is always that he's gay. (Chuckle) Actually he gets a lot of sex that way - women either assume he's gay and want to "convert" him, or he tells them he's not and they're surprised and turned on by it, for some reason.
And as you probably know already, most male cross-dressers are heterosexual. Yet that is not the stereotype.
The most effeminate-seeming guy I know lives with two women, and yes, all three sleep in the same bedroom. And look at all the "macho-man" gays. Yes, Virginia, there ARE truck drivers and construction workers who are gay!
Just be happy in whatever profession you want to be in, and can get a job in, as long as your paychecks don't bounce. Forget about the stereotypes. Anyone you care enough about to reveal yourself to will know what you really are. No one else's opinion matters.

Its a good question although I think youre losing a bit of your own credibility when you DO sell lingerie and you ARE a crossdresser...
I dont see where the "incorrect assumptions" about you come in... that WAS the point of the question wasnt it? I mean.. it wasnt REALLY about selling women's shoes must mean one is gay, etc., right?
People are going to assume things about any and every aspect of another's life no matter what you do or say or wear or sell. Its human nature.

I don't think it matters at all. First the reason you are probably so good at your job, is because you have this insight and kind of experience to draw from and put into your professional life. This is who you are and who cares about the assumptions? Hopefully you're comfortable enough in your own skin and in the end, your personal life is no ones business. Keep them guessing! Hey, I like to slip on nice lingerie to sleep in sometimes and I'm not a drag queen or cross dresser...at least not lately! wink! D

I thik alot of people would assume you were gay selling bridal dresses/lingere...which is really sad to say.
Honestly, it doesn't matter what they think though. If you are secure in yourself and love what you do then it shouldn't matter what you sell or what you wear--if you love to cross dress go for it!!

people often equate gender experimentation with sexual identity... it's just one among hundreds of unfortunate assumptions that people make about other people...
