If the oven was left at 400 and it is hot then the gas has been burned already (that's what makes it hot) and striking a match will not make it explode. If the oven was left on at 400 and the room is full of gas (which you can smell because they have added an odor) then you should turn off the oven, open a window and leave the house immediately.
Most ovens these days have an automatic lighting mechanism and you don't have to manually light them.
If you hear a hissing noise you can check for leaks using some dish soap and water. Just put your fingers in the soapy water and rub it on the connections. If there are bubbles that's where the leak is. Don't ever try to check for leaks by lighting a match. It might sound obvious, but sometimes people don't think and that's when trouble happens.

I don't know if it will exactly explode, but I would definatley look into it. If it was making weird noises that you don't normally hear, that could be it just settling down since you left it on for so long, but you should check it anyway. Best to be safe than sorry. I'm not really an expert on ovens, but I say look around, in, above, etc. and check to see if you think it has affected anything. Sorry I couldn't give you a full answer, but this is all I came up with. Try searching the internet or asking a friend for help. But honestly, I think you're ok.

Well...#1 Open the windows if it's a gas stove! Even if you don't smell gas or oil, you should vent the house. #2 People have done this before. I'm sure if you leave the oven off for a while it'll stop making those weird sounds. #3...You should really try harder to remember when you leave the oven. I'm not making fun of you...I've done this before on an electric stove. Nothing happened, but all that stuff that was caked on the bottom was cooked off...:)

The noise you heard was probably caused by the heat. This is normal sounds because the oven was left on for an extended period of time. I would be surprised if the oven exploded; restaurants leave their ovens on continuously and they have no problems. Usually if there is going to be an explosion, you will smell gas first. If you're worried, why not let "the gas man" have a look at it.

I have a gas oven and I've noticed that after doing the self clean (which gets up to 500 degrees) it will make strange noises as it cools down. Open some windows and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Nope, it ought to be fine. Don't worry. It's probably just trying to disapate the heat that was generated...so it'll moan and groan for a while. I've had things in the oven all day before (like when I was cooking for a big party and was baking from about 7 am until midnight!) and no ill effects. Don't worry, it'll be fine..
now, about that gas bill...that's a different story....

It's likely nothing will happen, so stop fretting, dear. You may notice a bigger gas bill this month, but maybe next time, set some kind of audible timer or reminder taped to the door, so you'll remember to check before you leave the house... ♥

I don't have a gas oven. I don't know what the weird noises are. I have left the oven on all day before and nothing happened except I wasted electricity.

What kind of weird noises?
Nothing should be wrong but you should probably open a window for a bit to air the place out.
