Three books are kept in a library side by side. Each book is of 3cm thickness. Imagine a worm digging a hole from first book's first page to last book's last page. What will be length of the hole.

Its very much logical!
Its not 9cm either.

This cannot be answered because it depends on the direction along which the worm is digging. If you assume it to be perpendicular to the plane of page of the book, then it is 3 cm otherwise more than 3 cm depending on the direction and size of book.

If you didn't trick us then it has to be 9cm. Examples of possible tricks:
1) The worm does not dig a hole horizontally (the hole is not perpendicular to the pages)
2) The worm digs the hole horizontally but the book rack is not horizontal(the hole is not perpendicular to the pages)
3) Last page (in terms of the printed page numbers), and not the first page, of the last book is adjacent to the second book.
4) There are air gaps in between the books.
5) The worm is incapable of digging a linear hole.
6) "Side by side" could mean anything: lengthwise, widthwise, or thicknesswise.

The length of the hole is 3*(no. of books in a row) cm

This cannot be determined as we do not know the number of books placed in a row. You said three were side - by - side. You didn't say only three had to be there in that row!

Your book doesn't have a cover?

If it actually doesnt...

Here are the only 3 possible answers (at least only possible to me):

9cm, 6cm, or 3cm

You never know which side the book is facing =D!

6cm because the first books first page would be on the far right however this is a dumb question because whose to say u cant start from the right and make it 9cm, question doesnt specify

depends on how the books are oriented and what direction the worm is travelling. It could be as little as 3 cm

OK copying Runningman's diagram assume the books are as shown and the first book is on the left

|----|>->|----| 3cm
|----|-----|----|
|----|-----|----|
|----|-----|----|
|----|-----|----|
1 2 3

If the first book is on the right

<------------- 9cm
|<--|-----|--<|

3 2 1
