You can always wear a "kiss the cook" apron when grilling. That is considered manly. Other than that, yes it is too girly.

All professional chefs wear aprons to guard their clothing. An apron can be changed as needed, so its more hygenic to wear one than it is to allow the gunk to accumulate on one's clothing.
