I'm from Kansas City (actually a suberb on the Kansas side) and have lived here most of my life...except for one year in Chicago. While I was there, I told people I was from Kansas City...they would say something like, "Oh yeah, I know Missouri...I've been to St. Louis." I would then tell them I lived in Kansas, and they would seem confused. I thought it was weird that people were surprised to find out there is a Kansas City, KANSAS. I would think it would be common knowledge, but like I said...I live here. :)

They should, but I bet most don't know that the one in Missouri is the large city, while the one in Kansas is not much more than a medium sized town.

No,

Most people think it is in Kansas from the name.
A large minority know the one in Missouri from a map or the sports teams.
