Hypothetical situation. For illustrative purposes lets assume you are white. You work in a factory of about 20 people. You are the only white person, and it the factory consists of mostly Hispanic people and a few black people.
Your supervisor is black. He is constantly ripping on you for being white. He is always taking about how your people should just go back to England...even though you ask him to leave you alone the harassment gets worse and worse. One day he start talking about how sexually attracted he is to 12 year old white girls. He is laughing at you as he goes on and on about this in a very serious tone, and describes some of the 12 year old white girls living in his neighborhood. He has technically done nothing illegal by saying these things, he is just trying to get a rise out of you, so that he can prove that you are an outta control European animal. You tell his supervisors and the owners, who are his buddies and are also black. They give him "a good scolding

but do nothing.
You are the highest producer in the company, but nothing you ever do is good enough.
What do you do? Would you press charges?

I forgot to mention that someone went and shipped all of the manufacturing jobs in your area to China. This is the field you have worked in for years and there is a slim to none chance of finding a better job, and you have a family to support.

Just to clarify I wasn't asking for legal advise, I was just asking what you would do in a situation like this...on one hand you believe speech should be free no matter how much you disagree with it, on the other hand there is your sanity and your ability to support yourself..

Just ask me this question and i would have said Free Speech but i agree that inciting violence and hated should not be alowed. However in my opinion not everybody should have equal rights. Such as why should people with criminal convictions be alowed to do the same things as people who have followed all their lives. If you can handle resposibilites you dont deserve rights. And a resposibility that comes with equal rights is being able to use Free Speech in the correct mannor. So in conclusion it i belive that they should compement eachother. If that makes any sense what so ever.

thats hard...we already have free speech, but equal rights has yet to become a reality. And even tho we have "free speech" we really dont, since there is still tons of censorship, you can get in trouble at your workplace for stating certain things. I mean, you as an individual can say what you want, but other people can do things to oppress what youve said, or react to those words. Look at the N word for instance, white people arent allowed to say it, only black people are, even when used in the exact same context. How free is our free speech anyway?

He HAS indeed broken the law. Specifically, he has broken employment laws against creating a hostile working environment and discrimination based on ethnicity. Since you have reported him to his supervisors and the owners who have also done nothing to make the situation change, you are well within your rights to file a claim with the local EEOC office and I would certainly do so.

This is an employment law question and has nothing to do with a choice between free speech and equal rights. If you are being harassed in the workplace, you should pursue appropriate legal action.

i'm sufficiently previous to undergo in recommendations communicate radio returned interior the days of the fairness Doctrine. it somewhat is a fantasy that communicate radio develop into bland for the duration of that era. Radio usually develop into far greater exciting earlier deregulation - stations unquestionably had multiple formats and did no longer merely have syndicated programming or play the comparable 20 songs returned and returned. on the time, there have been opinionated communicate host on the right and the left. communicate radio develop right into a lot greater problematic in the process the fairness Doctrine days on account which you unquestionably heard actual debate and differing evaluations. The hosts weren't muzzled yet merely had to furnish a while to modern-day opposing perspectives. maximum of communicate radio at present is merely propaganda. A handful of firms (possessing maximum persons of radio stations) supply us basically the evaluations that they choose us to hearken to. most of the hosts merely recite speaking factors from the RNC. the sole exception that i will think of of is a uncommon reasonable like Jim Bohananon or Michael Medved - a conservative communicate host who usually useful factors visitors that he disagrees with. We deserve greater suitable than one-sided propaganda on the airwaves - i do no longer care no remember if it somewhat is coming from Rush Limbaugh from the right or Air united statesa. from the left.

I would see a lawyer to see what my chances were in filing a case like this. If he's done nothing illegal, what can you charge him with? I'd probably bite the bullet and get another job away from these people.

You can't press charges, but you can complain to the human relations board. Also, a strongly worded registered letter to the company president.

If you're facing harassment in the workplace, you should just quit and find another job. That's the best way to get out of the situation.
