No!!!! Special wire for withstanding the high heat. You will probably cause a fire or burn up the dryer. Get the correct part and save yourself allot of grief. The heating coil is not that expensive. The cost is mainly in the labor to put it in.

As a qualified electrician, don't even think about it. The wires have different resistances and yours would be a short circuit.
People working on their own electrical may seem like a good way to save money but I equate it to people doing surgey without a medical background. Harnessing the electron for utlization by industry has been something my brothers of the electron have worked on for a hundred years. Codes, laws and science is there to install to required standards.
If you play with your electrical and start a fire or hurt someone, you will have a liability. Let the responsibility fall on the professional, not you.

Heating elements are made from "Nichrome" wire.
Not ordinary wire.
It has a higher resistance than normal wire.
What you propose won't work, will probably trip your
circuit breaker, and is dangerous.
Even if you got nichrome wire of the proper size,
it must be correctly supported and insulated while
working at red heat.
Don't try to "cheat' on this one.

No it won't work. Copper wire has very low resistance and it won't get hot at all.
If you're doing repairs It's best to get a new replacement part and not try to improvise - it usually costs you more in the long run and it can also be dangerous.

That is absolutely correct. Don't try it. The wires are special wire made to get hot. Regular wire will melt and cause problems.
