Yes.
England had used the colonies to dump exiled prisoners, and once they started building a pretty good civilization in the new world, England started taxing and limiting the colonists without allowing them to have a say in the decisions being made about them. "No taxation without representation" and all that.
Revolution could have been avoided (or atleast postponed) if England had simply put in Representatives of the colonies in Parliament, but I think things turned out interesting. We wouldn't have such an cool story about the birth of our nation then.

Nope. There was no need for the american colonies to rebel, as the very existence of Canada proves
