Go to www.socialsecurity.gov their website has a lot of answers.

Next, get a copy of the death certificate and you and dad make an appointment and go to SS Office. If you are under 18 you may be entitled to benefits. Your dad will get a lump sum benefite ($250.00) and possibly survivor benefits.

Call your local office now and make an appointment, then read thoroghly the website about these matters. Good luck

Social security pays only a $255 death benefit to the surviving spouse--SORRY about your mom by the way.... I TOO am on social security disabilty and no spouse but my SON will receive the $255 from Social Security when I die...Your dad still works and would be WISER for him to take his OWN social security, which will be MUCH more money then what he MIGHT get by taking your mom's.... Have him contact the social security administration--I HOPE he did not cash any checks that your mom might have gotten after her death... He will need CERTIFIED copies of her death certificate to send to social security AND to ANY PLACE that your mom might have done business (credit card companies, etc)... the copies can be obtained at your local country clerk's office for between $10 and $20 a copy... They MUST have the official SEAL from the county which is why it costs money to get the copies. If YOU are under 18,you MIGHT be entitled to Social security benefits if your mom worked prior to getting on disabilty...your dad would be able to find that out once he contacts the Social security administration....

You are entitled to a social security check until you are age 18, or age 21, if you are a full time student. Your father, unfortunately, is entitled only to a one time, $250 death benefit from social security.

Women get widow benefits so you should see if the same applies to men. Call your local social security office

It depends if she was getting SSA or SSI. If she was getting SSA he or you should, but if it was SSI he will get one check to help with the expences. Its normally only $250.
