A DAY IN THE LIFE OF PATTI SMITH
Patti was an electronics junky for sure. Her children always said that Mom liked anything with a plug. And, they were right!! Of course, Patti was starting to go wireless now, whenever possible. So far, that only included the mouse and keyboard, but she really would like to see everything wireless, so she could do away with the rat’s nest of cords beneath her desk.
Her employment was in data entry. That suited her just fine. She wanted to be on the computer all day long anyway. Why not get paid for it?
She had today off from work, so she did it in the way she liked best--watching TV or playing on the computer. She also liked to check her email or Instant Message with her friends.
Patti started her day off watching QVC. Pat DeMentri and Dan Hughes were the hosts of the QVC Morning Show. As usual, they had quite the variety of stuff they were pushing: Today’s Special is a ribbed cardigan, and sleeveless turtleneck sweater, which comes in Aqua Blue, Heather Gray, or Ivory.
Naturally, her favorite thing being demonstrated was the “Homedics iSoundSpa Sound Machine” clock radio with iPod dock. Features included: iPod dock, a large digit LCD display, and best of all--it projects the time in a blue light to the wall or ceiling. All for about $50.00--such a deal!!
Another thing that definitely caught Patti’s eye, was the “EyTwisters Optical Illusion Windspinner.” The host called it,
“A whimsical accent for your yard or walkway.” This kinetically powered spinner features two arms that rotate in opposite directions to create a cool optical illusion. Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. An object which has motion--whether it be vertical or horizontal motion--has kinetic energy. It came in a choice of a shiny metal Sun, Heart, or Frog. The Frog stood for “Fully Rely On God.” Dan Hughes said, “I’ve always been attracted to shiny things. Me, and Crows.” Patti felt the same way.
Lunch was a chicken salad sandwich, on whole wheat bread, with lettuce, and a bottle of water to drink. Patti paid a few bills to the City and the Animal Hospital, recording the checks in her Quicken program. Let the computer do the math!! Patti had two cats, both about five years old: Mitzi and Bitzi. The cats dropped by from time to time for a little love, and then they were on their way for either catnaps, or power naps, depending on the length.
After a quick game of Solitaire, Patti jumped in her Tahoe to run a few errands. But, first she popped in her newest CD, Barry Manilow, “Greatest Songs of the Seventies.” She started singing along with him, “Memories, like the corners of my mind. Misty water-colored memories of the way we were……..” Then, off to the post office, WalMart, and grocery store to pick up some food for supper.
Home again! Time to check email and see if any of her friends were online. She managed to kill a couple hours doing that! One of them told her a little joke. “Do you know why the turkey crossed the road?……..It was the chicken’s day off.”
Then, time to fix supper. Her husband, Bob, would be home soon. He worked at the local bank. Her children were all in college now, so it was just the two of them, and Mitzi and Bitzi. After supper, Patti took a walk around the neighborhood for about an hour. Then, a few more hours of quality time with either the TV, computer, or possibly even her husband. She was definitely feeling good about the day. No worries. Life was good!!
