Go to start>control panel and click systems. Go to the hardware tab and click device manager. Look for the device you want to update the driver for and double click it. Go to the driver tab and click on update driver.
-A screen will pop up like in the automatic install. Select "install for a list or specific location" this time and click next. Uncheck "search removable media" and check "include this location in search". Click the browse button and go to the directory where you saved your new driver. (if its on CD just search removable media and it will find it).
-Click next and it will attempt to install the driver. Once done click next and your new driver is install. A reboot might be required for the device to work properly

When it searches for it, set it to search from a specific folder and point it to the folder where you extracted the driver.
You can do this by right clicking My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager -> you'll see Unknown UB Device with a yellow "!" next to it; this is your printer which isn't being recognized by windows.
Right click it and select Update Driver, you'll be prompted through the wizard to search for the driver; if you have indeed downloaded the correct driver, set the search to Advanced, select Specific folder to search in; make a temp one on your desktop with the driver, select it, and proceed with installing.

Hp will most likely put it in a .exe file and I'm guessing you downloaded that. All you have to do is just double click the file you just downloaded and it'll install the driver for you

Unplug the USB cable, plug it back in when the HP program tells you to. Then, Double-click on the downloaded HP driver file to install it.
Then, just follow the on-screen instructions.
