Personally, I'm not fond of Dallas as a name.
I know a great guy named Dallas. People either call him Cowboy (after the team) or Tex. He's NOT a Cowboys fan nor does he have any affiliations with the great state of Texas (other than his name of course). Most people assume that because his name is Dallas there must be some connection, hence the nicknames.
So while you're not intending to name your child after the city (or the pro football team), the name Dallas will be forever tied to them.
Good luck. :-)

Not after the city? Is it after someone special?
In itself, Dallas means Valley of Water. It is definately a place name, but it is also a very nice name for a boy.
I don't know if you can get away from the city, though, but if you like it despite that, I say go for it.
I like the name Dallas... but there are other place names I like too.

Well, considering that my family are die hard Dallas Cowboys fans. YES!!!! I love that name. It all depends on the middle name and how it sounds all together with your last name. Don't be like the parents of Arkansas Razorback's head coach and name their child Houston Nutt. It doesn't really work well.

No, you may not intend for it to be after the city, but that's what everyone is going to think of.

Ugh, personally I hate it! It's better as a middle name then a first name.

Cute name.
I'm named after a country & still get jokes/teased 33 years later. I wouldn't dare do it to my child.
