I understand that the benefits include steady income, and in many cases, health insurance.

And, why isn't it being actively supported by presidential candidates?

Are you kidding? How can you even suggest that people do something so ridiculous! Get a job. Thats what I did! You can't expect everyone to go do that. Who would the democrats coddles if people all went out and got jobs?
See, as more and more people join that program, less and less people would be willing to support the Government Cheese Reserve. As these people earned that “steady income”, and gained benefits like “health insurance”, they would be more concerned with that ‘income’ being taken away to be given to those that still haven’t gotten with the program. They would then start voting against those that supported taking their ‘steady income’ to give to others, and there would be a major shift in the balance of government. Since those that would most benefit from NOT ‘getting a job’ are most likely to vote more for one side than the other, that side has little interest in changing things, and supports just giving them what they want.

atsinoihsaf - Everyone has to start somewhere. Flipping burgers is a start. That is the foundation that you build a career off of. No one just 'deserves' a good job because the decide one to that they want to work. You start at the bottom and work up. Some of us did our burger flipping in our mid-teens, and have moved past that. Just because someone is in their 20's or 30's and have still not gotten that entry level experience, doesn’t mean that they get to skip to the front of the line.

A ton of money. Some people claim they can't get a job, so some sort of social program will need to be started to ensure everyone gets their job. Of course, that will lead to a lot of imcompetence at the work place and slow down of productivity. America could spin into another Great Depression if such a program was enacted. I suggest a better social program called "get a job or starve to death for all I care." That way the unhirable have an option while people will still be encouraged to "get a job."

This question is not as simple as you say it is.

Right now jobs are in the dumps, and unemployment is high.
I actually had to travel from Ohio to Las Vegas, JUST TO GET A MINIMUM WAGE JOB! Plus I have family that works in the unemployment offices and they say job offers are bad and not promising.

Then there is the problem of living expenses not meeting up with what people actually earn. I had to choose between rent or buying food this month after receiving my paycheck. Other family members I know are earning 18 dollars an hour and facing the same dilemma. It sucks.

I however do agree this is the route to go. So if you want to be national policy, you have to address the issue of inflation and rising standards of living and the unemployment issue. Do this and the US would be set.

Hey dude - let's not crazy here! How can you make a suggestion that tens of thousands of lazy, excuse making Americans get off their sofa's and get a job? Really now - don't you realize that the problem really lies in the fact that us short-sighted morons who went to college, worked our way into good positions are not willing to compromise our lifestyle by paying more taxes so that those who do the least can have the most?

Now just back away from the radical ideas and get your *** back to work.....millions of people on welfare are counting on you!

The best part of the program is that it actually brings in money for the tax payers!

This program is clearly unfair to the minorties who shouldnt have to work. It is the white mans job to work and provide money for all of the minorties he may have harmed in the past. I suggest changing the name of your program to whitey get 3 jobs to pay for my new rims.
