Or has everyone changed to emails? My handwriting is very hard to read and my typing is getting worse due to pain in my fingers. I like you folks but sometimes have to read and remain silent,, hope that is ok.

Yes, I do because I have some friends and family that don't own a computer. I still love to get real mail-letters and cards. I have saved almost every card I've ever received since my teens! I have scrapbooks filled with them. I can't bear to throw them away. I think if a person takes the time and money and thoughtfulness to send a card, then it should be treasured.

In all honesty I think you are overly romanticizing a bygone era with an unrealistic appraisal of what living back then was like. - Virtually no equal rights for women. - Wide spread domestic violence against women and children. - Racism. - Oppressive society. - Poverty. - Lack of technology (which of course includes medicine such as antibiotics). - High infant mortality and low life expectancy. It's great that you have the time on your hands to practice calligraphy. Most people don't have that time. But I do think that you need to be more realistic about the good old days, before you dismiss the modern freedoms we have. UPDATE: I'm not saying there is anything wrong with writing letters, we all have to have a hobby we enjoy. I just thought that you were a little tough on your opinion of the modern world. It has problems, but then so did living in virtually any other era too.

Uhh.. I write with pen/pencil and paper at school or when I need to take a note of something, but everything like letters, birthdays I send an email! Mostly because most people live halfway around the world so a letter would take long! Hope this is a good answer :D

I used to write letters on a regular basis, but holding a pen for a long time is not very comfortable for me. Christmas cards got to be a seasonal chore that I dreaded. Now, I just pick up the phone and call people. I will write a thank-you note as needed (I think that lends a nice personal touch).

My handwriting can be easy to read and can be hard. Depends on lotsa variables. But I don't have pain in my fingers. It's fine that you remain silent. We like you too. I have one penpal, but she just got her computer back, so it's unlikely we'll be sending letters back and forth anymore. At Christmas to save postage I send postcards. Last time I used a sea sponge and acrylics. Just dipped it in the green paint into a circular shape, then dabbed red paint here and there inside it, after the green had dried. 26 cents instead of 41. And you could just take your time signing each one.

I never was one to write letters. I love to email though. I probably email more in one month than I have written letters my whole life. Of course it's OK if you just read but you don't have to stay silent. Throw a hi out there once in a while and let us know you are here. *smile*

Yes, but I recently threw away my quill pen.
If you find typing painful, you may need a new keyboard. There are several ergonomically friendly keyboards on the market that have the board separated and sloped to accommodate your hand position. It is much easier to use than the regular keyboard. There are also devices that allow you to speak and your words are transcribed, and you might enjoy that. If your problem is arthritis or rheumatism, check, with the A & R Society to see what devices they have that could help you. There are aides out there, and you might as well use them to enjoy internet communication as long as you can.

My handwriting's deteriorated since emails too . However, I still think personally written letters and cards are nice to send and receive.

In years to come we'll have nothing but oral histories , nothing written , unless we use emails . I think it's important to still keep writing and I will until I can't write or type anymore.

My handwriting is like exaggerated printing anyway.

Yes I still do. Besides Christmas and Special occasion cards, I write letters. I have some older friends who do not have computers. I enjoy writing "diary letters". I'll start one and add to it over a few days. Makes for better reading.

There is an ergonomic keyboard that has special very light touch keys you may want to check into...would be well worth the cost :-)

And No, I don't write snail mail any longer...but do sign cards with short notes at Christmas...email has replaced writing and in some ways that is a good thing and it allows me to keep in contact with many more people with no postage stamps - lol
