Hi ladies! I was thinking of registering for one of these, but first I want to know if any overweight ladies out there have had success with them? The description reads that they "adjustable to fit any size", but I was wondering how they have worked for plus-sized women.

Thanks!

I have to agree with the other poster. My husband and I bought a Jeep carrier and it fits both us very well. I'm a size 22 and he's 6'2" and a 2x.

Baby Bjorn Front Pack

We have one; it works well enough for me (5' 4", sz 6), and my husband (6', XL).

We also have a sling, which is a complete write-off for him. "They just didn't make this for the queen-size Daddies," he giggled, blushing.

As for the comments re. spinal stress: I don't see it as a problem so long as your baby isn't LIVING in it, and there's no guarantee that slings or mei tais are absolutely aces for developing bodies, either. I think a combination of carriers works best. (I am typing this with my daughter in a mei tai...)

The comment re. "large rack" -- I am no longer anywhere near the dainty 32C I once was, and it still works well enough.

There is a bit of a learning curve to a Baby Bjorn carrier, but there is for all types of carriers, and it took very little time to get it down to an art. If we have a bit of a sob here, we get popped in the Bjorn, which is more of a cry-stopper, at 9 weeks, than the mei tai or sling.

All that said, I wish I had spent the extra money and bought the even more absurdly expensive "Active" version of the carrier. I have a giant-sized daughter, and the Bjorn is starting to cause some shoulder pain. It was a dream to wear before she hit (dunno the exact weight, but) the size 3 diapers, size 6mos clothes size.

The biggest barrier to gals using the Baby Bjorn or Snuggli that I know of is not being obese, but having a large rack. I do not recommend the forward and back wearing Snugli (can be used as a baby backpack carrier when they are older) as the clips are in an awkward place if you are obese and the belt is inadequate as well. But, the regular front packs worked for me and I am 6' and really I think heavier then y'all. So do slings....

I know that Maya Wraps and Over The Shoulder Baby Holders (I think they're called Nojo now) come in larger sizes. Personally, the Baby Bjorn is so confusing, uncomfortable and ugly that I would recommend Maya Wraps to anyone (LOVE mine!), plus size or not. Maya Wraps take a little longer to learn that the "backpack" style carriers, but they last much longer and are far easier to use once you get the hang of it.

Baby Bjorn's are not a good idea. Have you seen a baby in one? It lets their feet dangle so that all of their weight is on the crotch. It can also cause spinal stress.

If you are looking to get a carrier, I suggest getting a sling. Rings slings are adjustable so they fit for plus-sized women very well. Another good carrier is a wrap.

The Jeep carrier worked for us. I'm a plus sized girl with more size on my top half.

My sister used this also and her husband fit it too and he's 6ft 9in tall!

They have an extra tall version - baby bjorn specifically does. My husband is 6'4 and put on some baby weight and was up around 240 and it worked great.

I was wearing a 16-18 after having the baby, and I used one.
