I'm a heterosexual christian, and I may be one of the few people like me who believe this, but I think gay marriage should be legalized. Why would God, or any God for that matter, condemn people for choosing to love the same sex? Love is pure. How could it be evil?

Do you think gay marriage should be legalized? If you're gay and religious, shouldn't you be able to get married under your faith?

as a white, male, straight, roman catholic, it is my opinion that people should be able to marry whoever they want.
being gay is not a sin, i don't remember a commandment that says "thou shalt not love someone of the sex".
however what i do not want is see is any couple, gay or straight mauling each other in public.

Part of the definition of marriage is "a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law." That assumes that both parties can legally make a contract. Now, at least, children can't. Chairs can't. Animals can't. The law in this country does not recognize the ability of any child, chair or animal to make a contract. Neither is there any way to obtain consent from an animal or a chair, since consent involves the assumption that they understand what they are doing as well as the act of their consenting. Please inform us how that could be done. It could easily be argued that the fact that children have and still are sometimes forced into marriage in some countries totally invalidates any connection between homosexual marriage and child marriage, if there were any logical connection in the first place (there isn't.) Child marriage involves a heterosexual relationship, and heterosexuals are the ones who validate it. They don't do it by appealing to homosexual marriage. So what's the connection, exactly?

The only reason gay people want to get married is so they can enjoy the same marriage rights that straight couples do, and the benefits that go along with being married in the eyes of the law, if it were legal for same sex couples to get married.

I don't know why we are dragging our butts. Here we are....one nation under god. (What a joke) and yet there are only two places where civil unions are allowed, and those are not marriages my name, although they carry the same weight.

I don't know what the religious fuss is about. Marriage isn't really discussed in the Bible except for people being married or attending marriage ceremonies. It was just a civil rite for protecting property, etc., that people asked God's blessing on, not the other way around like it is now.

first of all, thank you: you've got a lot of respect for other people's tastes and opinions if you support the gay marriage cause without being gay, so thank you :]

of course I think it should be legalized because there shouldn't be no law or common belief that someone can't be gay and christian at the same time: we can and a lot of us are like that and it's absolutely not wrong

abusive people and murderers and robbers and criminals can get married, why shouldn't a honest man marry another man or a hoenst woman marry another woman?

Thank you for hitting a point I often make.

I am religious, my faith tradition supports gay marriage -- so effectively, denying us the legal right to marry in churches, synagogues and other faith traditions that support gay marriage is establishing those particular faiths that oppose gay marriage over our faiths -- making those versions of faith, if you would, the established churches -- and that is, at its core - against the ideals that our ancestors fought and died for in the Revolution.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness, and for your support.

Kind regards,

Reyn

Soapbox!
in America, the idea of civil liberties states you should be able to do whatever you want, so long as you're not harming others. A male and female can set up household, get a license, and enjoy privileges as defined by the STATE. The STATE issues a marries license, not a church. The STATE is not permitted to adhere to a single religious ideology. As a citizen, I should be able to enter into that sort of contract with my mutually enthusiastic mate, without regard to a court clerks feeling on the matter. I cannot, and should not want to, make a church marry us. This is not a church issue, it is a STATE issue.
Your church says I cannot marry another male. Well, guess what? Mine says I can. Your church and mine differ. Welcome to America. I'm not asking your church to change.
Whew, i need to sit down for a bit.

My partner and I both are religious and planning our wedding for next year. We believe that gay marriage should be legalized as well as recognized as a marriage and not a civil union.

gay marriage is legal in more civilized countries. The US is just behind the times on that, but oddly they always seem to be on human rights issues (slavery, death penalty, womens rights, torture)
