When light is on brakes work fine,when it goes out the brakes tighten up and make popping noise.Totally opposite of what it should be doing. Right. Any ideas?

Go to a shop and have them pull the trouble code. SOund to me like a bad ABS sensor.

its your ABS motor. when it goes out, it will tighten up your brakes. Antilock Brake System. Thats what ABS stands for. now you need to be very careful when driving for now till you get it fixed. also, check for leaks from your wheels, master cylinder (Located on driver side under hood right in front of a large round part.) best bet is to take it to a shop and have it checked out.

Take it down to the shop, any brake shop you prefer or go to your dealership mechanic. It sound like something bad, either brake pad or rotor had these problem.

We need year make and model of vehicle, all ABS systems are different!
