how much ram an OS supports/access depends upon the type of OS

theoretically
a 32 bit os can support 2^32 bits of memory
that comes to 4GB of memory...
but xp 32 bit could only access 3 GB of ram(i read somewhere)

a 64 bit OS on the other hand should support 2^64 bits of memory/addresses, equivalent to 17,179,869,184 gigabytes or 16 exabytes of RAM
i used should instead of would/could becoz that much amt of ram has not been developed yet..

Vista is an operating system, it can use processors up to 64 bit, possibly even more, it doesn't really matter because its the processor that defines the number of bits of operating code it can handle in one time shift.

graphics cards have memory so they don't have to use the PC's RAM, so it doesn't matter.

You generally want plenty of power especially with fast graphics cards needing a decent supply, you want at least 650W, probably best off with 800W.

Now what sort of GB memory? - for RAM it is dependent on the physical RAM and motherboard capabilities which on most home version PC's will have a maximum of 4 GB.

For storage, it is down to the availability of hard drives, a current maximum is probably like 2TB with 4 500GB hard disks, i'm sure you can get 750GB's now so maybe make it up to 3TB. THen you can have as many external ones as you can fit onto the usb's etc.

Vista has no limits, its the physical PC that is limited.

sorry that nobody has been helpful yet.

The 32-bit version of Vista supports up to 3.5gb of RAM. the 64-bit version supports more. (maybe up to 8?) i dont know anyone that would ever need that much though

It's not Vista that "supports" your RAM....

It's a matter of how much RAM your Motherboard in your PC will support.

Vista only "uses" the RAM it doesn't "support" it at all.

Hope this helps.

Hi. More RAM means better performance up to a point. That point is about 2GB.
