Do you think this 17 year old is too old for her to be dating? I don't want her to go on one on one dates but maybe with a group of friends. I've also told her she is not allowed to ride with him in his car. I've also told her she can have him come over to our house and visit until a reasonable time. What do you think? Give me some of your insights and suggestions (only if you are a parent of a teenager) please.

Mr. AXETON W? What planet did you come from? Obviously, you aren't a parent AND just a lonely boy who needs to make himself feel good by thinking the way you do. I feel very sorry for you. I'll pray for you.

I think she will be okay. And if you are uncomfortable with her going out one on one with him, have them go on group dates with other friends.

My son is 19 and geez if I thought it was hard having a baby, I had no idea what hard time was until he became a teenager. You are doing the right thing by giving her guidelines. Since boys mature slower than girls I don't think the age is a big deal but the experiences may be. Make sure she knows the consequences of going too far with a guy and let her know she can come to you no matter what. I know from experience how hard it is to sit through a "sexual" question but I felt safer being involved in his choices than if I had just said no and he got the info from his friends. Good job mom!

well when I was 16 I dated a boy for a little over a year. we were the same age, but he was a grade above me. long story short, I did a lot of things that I regret and I did a lot of things my parents didn't want me to. They laid out the rules of leave your bedroom door open, if he stays the night he sleeps on the sofa, etc. but being the rebellious teenager, I did what I wanted, and he pressured me into sex, and then it all ended with me being deeply depressed because he was just using me.

So if she is emotionally ready to date, I would have a talk and just tell her the things that go on and could happen or end up happening. She needs to make mistakes, that's how we all learn. I'm not a parent, but I thought I could help a little.

Group dates are a most definite! Leave the one on one dates for when she's older and more "mature."

My 17 yr old son's girl friend just turned 16 a couple of months ago...

I don't believe your daughter's boyfriend is too old.... the question really is, is your daughter too young?

If you would not mind your daughter going out with someone in her grade, then a person 2 years more mature may be a good choice for her. You have set good limits, that is good.

To help put your mind to ease.... invite over his parents for supper some night (which is what we did). It keeps everyone on the same page.

When I was 15 I dated a 17 year old and my parents tried to have the same rules for me. Reality is, is that teenagers will do what they want regardless of what their parents think or tell them not to do. There are many ways to do things without your parents knowing. My advice to you is to have a good talk with your daughter about the dangers of driving with a new driver, and sex and all that, and build her confidence that she can talk to you about things. If you make it seem like you understand her better, she might feel too guilty to do things behind your back, rather than you saying "You'll be grounded if you do this"

....I'm not a parent but that's just my advice

Hopefully, you have set a reasonable age for your daughter to start dating. I think the arrangement you have now is good. Obviously, at 16 you get a drivers liscense and the freedom that comes with it. (my son is 16). At 16, I feel dating is acceptable. Not only is your daughter supervised with her boyfriend, it also gives you an opportunity to get to know him a little better before your daughter can officially date.

No. Im sixteen right now. Bust when I was fifteen my mom let me date an eighteen year old. The thing is, please check him out first and see how he is. That is the only way it should be ok for them. Just make sure he doesnt have a bad rap sheet and all should be ok. Talk to his parents and see if he was/is an unruly child.

you are taking all the right steps, you don't want to try to shelter her too much so she wont get a shock when she does enter the real world on her own, and that way she wont have a reason to rebel because your too strict, give her guidance and direction, make sure you have had the sex talkl and she knows why it soo important to wait. cause no matter how good a parent your are, if i teen wants to do something they will find a way, but if you direct her in the right direction she wont want to.

I can see that you are protective of your teen daughter. I think any parent in their right sense would be because teens are raging with hormones, that's for sure.

I think you're right to have some reguations because you never know what's going to happen! i think you should let her go out on a group date first.

Lets see... its less then two years.

Guys mature a lot slower then girls, even a few years older are likly to be a lot less experienced.

Ie girl goes into a bar/party weraing skimpy outfits...

Lots of guys not only try it on with her, they offer drinks and other ways to impress.

Guy sitting on own... how mahy girls appraoch him? girls are supper fussy and if he was shy or not much good with girls odd are he has hardly done anything.

As for what they have in common?

bowling, cinemas, kissing, each other, music, fashion, sports...

Girls like older guys, guys like younger girls.

Age is irrelavent here as both teenagers... hes 17 not 57

Guys can be nice or nasty age 15,16 or 17, even 19 or 20

Just as older does not mean preditory

Also most loose virginity mid to late teens... yes that inc 15 and 17...

She will loose it, she will go down on guys, guys will squrt over her, and teenagers will make out.

its normal and natural and will happen no matter waht.

So concentrate more on contrception and decent sex ed.

Ie YOU YES YOU

get monring after pills at home readdy.

buy her the condoms... plenty and make her practice over and over again on the most realitic dildo you can get inc one that squrts to practice taking them off and not getting soperm on fingers showing that you need to wash it after.

And get her doing this in the dark awkard places ie car.

And YOU YES YOU take her for depro injection or monthly nuva rings or at least the patch. pills are too easy to forget.

And note many get pregnant thinking pulling out or we only did it for a second.. or safe time of the month, or we had panties on or it was fingers after the touched his willy etc.

KILL ALL MYTHES by educating properly and testing.

Do not accept oh we learnt it all in school. give her an exam covering things like how chocolate can render condoms useless in seconds, how virgins can have stds as blood oe eye transfer.

How sperm is alive for ages in air and can transfer in seconds.

all about precum.. etc etc

...

Then get readdy for all the heart break and emotions from both of them... often its the guy who is innocent sand senstitive
