What do you all think about the healthcare plans in the US compared to other countries that have free healthcare?

Our healthcare system is broken. The system has been gamed by insurance industry and the large Hospital corporations. Less than 60% of our premium $ now goes to paying for health care. The remainder is kept by the Insurance companies. Used to be over 85% went to pay for our healthcare.

Single payer will capture a big chunk of that 40% (medicare costs less than 5%) Capturing funding for the 20 of workers who have no health insurance will reduce the rates we already pay. Heck we already pay for these folks anyway. The rates reflect that they pay nothing in.

Someone will have to pay for this service. Being self employed I already pay for my own ($14,000 per year) I do not care who I write the check to.

healthcare here sucks

problems-
False or frivolous malpractice suits that raise doctors insurance policies
medical equipment markups that can excede 1000%
people going to the doctor needlessly and frequently which increases claims which increases premiums
greedy insurance companies

there are problems in the healthcare sector, and with the people themselves. Americans go to the doctors more often then most other countries because its so easy to do. The more we go, the more the insurance companies pay out, which means the next year, they raise premiums, and then we complain, but keep going. Thats why policies where if you only go a couple times a year are the least expensive because the insurance companies pay less. If people were to only go when they NEED to go, instead of for every little tiny thing, we would probably not be seeing as many issues as we have. But alas, no one wants to take responsibility, so, while universal healthcare is a great idea, its really only a bandaid solution, american mindsets are really the problem here. Look at other things we the people have control over but never do anything about, gas prices government . It seems to me that american citizens have lost their will to fight for much of anything, and expect the government to fix it for them, which im sorry to say, they wont, we the people need to MAKE our government do it, not the other way around.

France has the best health care system in the industrialized world.

That's because their wealthy understand the concept of "social bribery" - when the government that is controlled by the wealthy offers social programs so the poor don't overthrow them.

The U.S. hasn't had a mass working-class left movement since the 1930s. Roosevelt had to offer some programs (the so-called "New Deal") to preserve capitalist rule. But that was a long time ago, and our wealthy are now ignorant of such tactics and take a "let them eat cake" approach.

Perhaps now that USA, Inc. is losing ground to their competitors in Europe and Asia this will change. However, if the only choices we get are plans like the "pay off the insurance companies" (Hillary) or "pay or die" (conservatives), we won't get the socialized healthcare we so desperately need.

All I know is, when I go to the doctor, I don't have to wait half the day, and I know I am getting some of the best care in the world just because I am at a doctor's office in America. If you think that a system that has people waiting in lines for hours just to get treated for anything, and when they do get treated, it is 2nd rate care, is better than the US system, then by all means, move to Cuba!

It already exists (and has since the days of Reagan). If your are sick or injured, just show up at any emergency room. The law says they have to treat you regardless of your lack of insurance or inability to pay. Hillary's plan is stupid. Why did we fight the Revolutionary War? To break away from excessive taxation from a government that was not responsive to the people? And if you get caught without the mandated health insurance? Debtor's prison? What happened to free choice and capitalism?

US has free/subsidized healthcare, just not for everyone. I think the policy represents the American ideology of not controlling the market, but providing for the needy. Really, why should we spend tax dollars on prescription junkies who are physically and mentally able to work?

The US is a great place to be rich, or a government employee, and in need of healthcare. I wouldn't recomend it if you're not.

Security efforts are lousy.
The war effort is lousy.
UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE WILL BE LOUSY TOO.
