When I moved in this townhouse he was in jail so it is just me and my to kids on the lease. I am a good tenant always pay on time etc. How do I ask my landlord to add him to the lease professionally with out having any problems or having to move somewhere else? When I moved in I told them we were seperated because of his alcoholism that put him where he is at. I dont think they know he is in jail though. Help advice please?

If you add him on as a dependent you should be fine. I do not believe a background check will be done on a dependent.

You do not have to tell them the details, just what his name is.

Take care,
Troy

I'm going through the same exact thing right now. My husband is coming home in December. My landlord thinks that we have been separated. My lease is not up for renewal until June, so I was going to wait and see how everything goes. If everything is still good by June, then I am going to ask if I can add him on.

a million. particular your condominium complicated can permit you realize that your husband won't be able to stay with you. Most landlords do background/criminal checks so he might not actually be allowed to live with you since he was just in prison. You need to check on that because all of the places in the state I live in do not allow "convicts" to rent.
If the place you are living does not do criminal checks then just tell the landlord you two have been talking again and everything is worked out and that is why he is moving in.

When I was still a renter, one of my neighbors had to move out because her husband was released from jail but our landlord didn't allow people with criminal records. So you need to check on it.

well if i were you i would'nt go to the trouble of putting him on the lease at all. reasons why is that how do you know he's changed?? trust me i was with my ex and he was in and out of jail he not once changed and just about a year and 1 month ago i finally put him in prison. and will never take him back.. so if i were you i would just leave things the way they are just to be on the safe side...

I'd just call them up and ask if having a jail/prison record would keep anybody from being on the lease.

check your lease and see if it has any info on adding a tenant to your lease before talking to your landlord, it may save you the trouble of putting yourself in a bad spot with your landlord.

read your lease agreement, and see if being in jail is a reason for them to not let him live there...........

otherwise, talk to the landlords and just ask, just because you ask, doesn't mean they will make you move, however if your husband can't live with you, you might want to find another place........

good luck

He is your hubby so tell your landlord that your hubby will be moving in with you and the kids in the near future. Do not tell them that he is in jail (not their business) As long as you guys remain good tenants I see no problems.

just tell them that you and your husband have decided to get back together, and you want to add him on as an occupant, you dont need to go any farther than that its none of there business who you have in your home or why you and your husband decided to get back together, but then again if he is a convicted felon you may have to let them know
