Most are not real hellraisers, its all an IMAGE for most of them! Most are very conservative and conformist. No sleep till BEDTIME! On all CD's its thanks for the beer, this pub that pub! In the Metal publications they gloryfy drink and drugs to young people! This is bad! Do they not know alcoholism is as bad for people as their music can be good for them?

I am a fan of Goth and Metal and I am an addict and alcoholic struggling to recover. I hate everytime I buy a CD or read a Magazine I have to read about drink and drugs.

If you go to a gig its better to give your money to the band instead of the fkn bar!

Hey i play! and i drink beer! But i always separate the two. I will never write a good ol' crunchy guitar riff song...about beer, that's just cheesy. I think a lot of it is corporate "Back Scratching" if you ask me. Some band gets tour support (money) from a booze company, so they HAVE to list the company on the album credit "Thank you's" list, and well...i bet they get free booze from said company. I dunno , i don't think about it too much. Hey , if you need some words of encouragement to kick your thing , hit me up. i've been there (drugs) and done that - "done" meaning eight years off the crap. My album credits in the past would have read something like:

Vinster proudly uses and endorses:

Ibanez guitars
Charvel / Jackson guitars
Peavey Amplification
Joe the Meth Dealer

LOL!

Well
I don't know quite where to start, complex issue You just raised.
I am a Metalhead and I will defend Metal to the Gates Of ---- but that doesn't mean You don't have a point.
In My 20's I was basically a dope fiend, my girlfriend of three years was a pill addict and I watched My best Friend slowly become a full blown alcoholic.
Why? Because We all wanted to live the "Party" lifestyle.
Well I am totally recovered now, so Is My Best Friend.
But My Girlfriend, the one I would have Married.
She's dead.
Because of drugs.
So I wouldn't glorify drugs to anyone or alcoholism.
Illegal Drugs Destroy Lives I Know.
So here is at least ONE Metaller who doesn't glorify it.
Thank You for asking a question which truly needs to be addressed.

I know where you're coming from but all the metallers I've known (myself included) aren't that bad.... but others seem to think we are. It's all image and, you're right, the magazines, videos etc. I just love the music and that's all that matters - what's the point of wasting money on buckets of booze? Less to spend on CDs then.

I get very annoyed with people blaming the music for problems - like that thing with Judas Priest lyrics a few years back. It seems like people need an excuse for their attitudes/problems etc - no one takes the blame themselves any more.

In this day in age, pretty much every song glorifys some sort of bad behavior whether is be drinking by the heavy metallers, or sex and drugs by the rap fans.

I love heavy metal and do not drink or smoke.

Whatever, country music is all about all jacked up and its 5:00 somewhere and i love this bar. You got snoop dog promotin the weed and cypress hill with there mary jane posters, just because metal promotes the "good stuff" don't blame it on metal. Do you not have any self control? Just because Ozzy bit the head off a bat doesnt mean I'm gonna!

I consider my self a metal head, I listen to band like all that remains, killswitch engage, slayer, and so on and so forth, but to group both metal heads and goths together and say that a majority of us are drug and alcohol abusers is dumb and very stereotypical, i personally don't do drugs and i'm no alcoholic and most of my friends who also are metal heads don't either, and plus, rap is much more based upon drug, sex, and alcohol, metal is more about violence, destruction, and death.

It's not just goths and metallers who glorify drink and drugs,i've read plenty of other musicians from other music genres doing the same thing.

Because thats what rockers do. Think about a heavy metal rocker who doesnt do that. John 5, the guitarist for Rob Zombie/former Marilyn Manson, and hes a pretty weird dude.

your blameing metal for you addiction. get the hell over it. im not denying that yeah, theres drinking and drugs in metal, but theres a lot of other stuff too. more often than not it ISNT glorified... i listen to metal every freaking day and i drink MAYBE once a month and no drug other than ibuprofen and tylenol has ever enterd my system. drinking is YOUR choice, not metals...if you dont like it, leave.

its not just metal goth and rock that do drugs and drink

rap music USED TO(they are trying to change that) refer women as b*tches and hoes and degrade women. THATS NOT BAD???????????????????? come on you gotta get your facts straight before you make a question.

There are a couple country songs too that talk about drinking and drugs.
ALL JACKED UP, that one song that talks about smoking marijuana in Tiawana.
