After reading about York now being allowed to have their bonfire I would like to ask a Health and Safety Representative
IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO THESE DAYS?

wipe our own bums, making sure its front to back of course

i'm extremely peed off with the paper pushers in the local councils trying to be our mums and dads
dont they think the organisers of the york bonfire would of thaught of every concievable safety issue and made provison for it. i dont think its just the council but the insurers who have put the cost up.
we the general public are even told to goto organised events as they are much safer than having them at home
i can just see the headlines in the news around the 6th nov, kids hurt in family bonfire or something to that effect.
it continually amazes me every year that uneducated and untrained people are allowed to handle explosives and the governement wonders why the local a&es are full of burns injuries
in my view sales of firework should only be permitted to certified professional event organsisers because lets face it any event is going to be better than a back yard bash where the risk of an accident is far more probable than at a well organised event

Get your facts right. You can have a bonfire in York on bonfire night. All that happened was that one event did not get a health and safety licence.

There will be loads of others that will, and if standards are reached, York City FC will get the licence next year.

If you contact health and safety in advance, they can give you advice on how to meet the necessary standards. They are not against risk, and certainly are not against people ahving fun.

Read a book by torchlight (not candlelight - too dangerous) and pay your taxes.
