As many here have already said, most people enjoy the taste of meat. It's another thing that concerns me, though.
Vegetarians aren't always healthier. That's a dangerous fallacy that too many people believe. Only vegetarians who eat smart are healthy. If they don't choose from a broad range of foods and take a multivitamin they can have a very unhealthy lack of key mitamins and minerals.
Too often vegetarians forget that they need protein. A never-ending diet of meatless pastas and salad is not going to get you the protien your body needs. While many (meat-eating) Americans get much more protein than necessary, the danger is still there for vegetartians to have a lack. Even more important for vegans is to watch their calcium intake since they aren't getting their supply from dairy products. Calcium deficiency can lead to osteoporosis, hypertension and even colon cancer.
And of course, there are vegetarians who do not exercise or do not do so regularly, and think that because they are vegetarian they are automatically healthy. This is not no. A proper balanced diet along with regular exercise is vital to the holistic well-being of any being.
Still, are vegetarians as a whole generally thinner than meat-eaters? Are they less prone to heart disease due to the reduced amounts of fat and cholesterol they generally take in? Are they freer of antibiotics and growth hormones that lace our country's meat supply? Yes.
Are they always healthier? No.

And me, people who eat other mammals just seems wrong to me. Would they eat their own family? Lots of other things have protein such as eggs, cheese, nuts and kidney beans and other pulses are a very healthy alternative.
Murderers!
Thumb me down all you bloody like too! The truth hurts.
But on a serious note it is totally uneconomical , you could have fed ten people on the grain that it would take to feed a cow before it goes to meat.
Who brainwashed these people into thinking we lack something in our diet when the the meat eaters lack moral fibre. If they had a heart they may think about what they consume instead of saying its tradition so it must be ok? Or I've eaten meat all me liofe boy and I ain't stopping now, I would starve! by God.

I was a vegitarian for 8 years. I was overweight by about 30 pounds and I never exercized. After I had my daughter I began to eat meat again for all of the protein (I was nursing and for some reason, a diet that included meat gave me the protein that I needed). I exercized, lost weight, and felt just great. I have been the healthiest I have ever been since eating meat, which tells me diet has NOTHING to do with health. Taking responcibility to exercize and keep yourself from eating junk food and too much of anything is the key to health.

Thats not 100% true....millions of people who eat meat are healthy if not healthier than pur vegetarians.
besides..you're if trying to put in a good word for vegans, you should know that plants are living things too. By eating plants you're killing plants just like when you eat a burger you've killed a cow. You can't say its right because plants have fewer senses.

Well I tried that for about 2 months. I couldn't take it! I swear every commerical had a cheeseburger in it! So I caved and made cheeseburgers. The smell was sooo good! It was the best burger I ever had, needless to say I like meat. And I don't want to stop eating it. And btw I was getting real sick of the "meatless" dishes that are so good for you. GAK!

In the perfect world--ahh.
A lot of people don't become vegetarians because they don't know how to get protein if they don't consume meat.
Many people just don't want to be vegetarians because they like meat. Hey, I like meat. I don't eat it hardly ever, but I still enjoy eating it.

Because humans are omnivorous. If we were herbivores we would not have canine teeth. It is our nature to eat a mixed diet of meat and vegetation. One of the worlds oldest living men (died at the age of 108) drank two shots of whiskey and smoked one cigar a day....does that mean we all should? There is no long term study that proves a vegan diet will extend life expectancy. It is more dependent on heredity, disease, and accidents.

It is because vegetarian dishes do not taste the same as meat-based ones. People who eat meat can also be healthy. It is about moderation in eating, after all.

Who says they live longer & healthier? Vegetarians are just as susceptable to cancer, heart disease, etc... as anyone who eats a normal low fat diet that includes meat. Your statement is wrong.
Addition: Eason, dear, your ignorance is showing. Save yourself the embarassment and read up on healthy, BALANCED, nutrition.
Let me help you get started: Lean protein, whole grains, fruits & vegetables and yes, even a little fat. You also need your RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance) of vitamins.
The fat soluble vitamins A,D, E and K are best absorbed when taken with food containing a little fat or oil. Vitamins are absorbed through the small intestines. They are stored in the body's fatty tissues and do not need to be consumed on a daily basis. Excess levels of vitamins can be toxic or harmful to the body. One should take them only according to prescribed dosages.
Water soluble vitamins C, the B Vitamins: thiamin (B1), B12, B6, riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), folic acid, pantothenic acid (B5) and biotin are dissolved in water. As a result of being water soluable, they are not stored in the body.
Vitamin A (for example) comes from animal sources (retinol) and plant sources (beta carotene). You need BOTH.
