Names that the parents (or parent) of the child thought over carefully and preferably agreed on. Something the child could grow up and old with. Alternate spellings are often pretentious or downright silly, avoid them. Look in to the history of the family. A child's name doesn't have to pay homage to some ancestor, but grandparents and great-grandparents often have interesting and usable names if not 'unique' per se. Avoid names that are also nouns, it's possible they won't fit the child's personality. Always check the meanings of the names considered for a child also.

Ummm... Six billion people and you want unique? I mean even if some people are named the same thing that could roughly leave you with like ...well lets just say half the poplulation has similar names and the other half has less similar and you want the less popluar name and the least popluar of them then ...well you have about 1.5 billion roughly to choose from that about 3 billion people might not have contact with but the other 3 illion will have heard!
So.. How unique are you talking? one of a kind? one of million? one of a billion? variation on spelling??
