I'm really stressed out for a number of reasons, and years ago I tried kava kava and it really helped. Now, I can't find it locally anymore, and there was apparently concerns about liver toxicity so it maybe got pulled from shelves. Any other (legal, safe, available) suggestions for an herbal sedative?

The most popular things for general relaxation are Valerian, Chamomile, and Hops.... but some people actually wake up when they take these and are just very relaxed.

There are also some supplements that can help with stress and relaxation if you wanted natural help for that. There is St. John's Wort, SAMe, some B-Vitamins, GABA, Ashwagandha, and L-Theanine

I would say Kava is great for anxiety. All these things about being bad for the liver? 90% if the food in the grocery store is bad for your liver, Kava is natural. Kava is a good thing to drink at night. In the morning a great way to reduce anxiety is to do some stretching and mindful breathing. However don't rely on Kava everyday, use it as more of a ritual.

Have you tried Valerian root? it is supposed to help you relax they sell it the vitamin shops. What about acupuncture, epsom salt baths or massages? You can do these weekly. Relaxation techniques such as breathing and clearing the mind help. You can try them 20 minutes a day. You can also try walking out doors for a few minutes. I understand you might not have time for some of these suggestions. Maybe go into a vitamin shop and ask about a tea that will help you, I knew of one but cant remember the name. Hope this helps!!!

Kava is avalible online from many venders. Iamshaman.com has the best i've heard. They also have other sedative herbs for sale such as blue lotus.
