1) The Dow Jones Industrial Average is only 30 stocks--the largest 30 companies such as Exxon, Walmart, Caterpillar, McDonald's, etc.
2) Yes, a stock can leave the NYSE and go to the NASDAQ, but it is usually the other way around. Since there are thousands of stocks, there are plenty to go around.
3) Do you want to invest in the stocks that make up the NASDAQ and the NYSE? You can do that through mutual funds or ETF's. Or do you want to invest in the companies that own the stock exchanges? You can buy the stock that owns the NYSE, for example. The symbol is NYX.

There are several DOW indexes. The one referred to most often as "the DOW" is based on stocks of 30 major companies - see http://money.cnn.com/data/dow30/ for a list of them.
Yes, a stock can leave one exchange and go to another, but the NYSE is very unlikely to lose all its stocks to NASDAQ.
There are index funds you can buy that hold the major companies from the various exchanges.
